| hi.
i would like to think of myself as a girl who can admit her mistakes. so in a spirit of contrition i will now amend a previous post.
the red tent (by anita diamant) is not a bad book. my change of heart was, of course, initiated by peter s. hawkins. in my genesis class last semester we read a series of fictional accounts of stories from genesis. so we read the red tent in conjunction with beuchner's the son of laughter. and the second time around...it wasn't so bad. it is not a sicko christian book. it does reek of estrogen, but i'm starting to appreciate that. (actually, the guys in our class liked it more than the girls...interestingly enough. i think it somehow fits a guy's idealized vision of a strong woman figure, which is another conversation in itself). it was written by a jewish woman to the rich jewish housewives of newton (a suburb of boston) and its a particularly remarkable imaginative description of the lives of the matriarchs. i bashed it for being unrealistic and sickeningly preachy and romanticized. but on the but, by the time i was done reading genesis and the son of laughter and paradise lost, i desperately wanted something good to happen to abraham, sarah, isaac, rebekah, rachel, leah, jacob. i needed their lives to somehow be easier and more beautiful than they were in the Torah. it's an unfortunate, ineffectual thing to be sad about the ancient Hebrews.
i feel better now. summer....go.

| my room in theology house. this is only my half of the room. imagine it
in an oval shape. song yi has the other half and i thought it was
kinda stalkerish to include. but that's her at the desk. i'm also
trying to keep a low profile because i gave her my cold.

my facebook has more pictures. you can see the new not-quite-as-real friends. :)

| caitlin daniel has achieved what none of the boys could. caitlin daniel made me love wilco. thank you for loving wilco for being wilco
but i haven't changed my mind in the ben gibbard vs. jeff tweedy argument...
due to a freak ipod listing accident i have also discovered that the best three albums to listen to in shuffle are the killers, bach, and the somewhat pleasant mix. go figure.
